Yknow, just because the console has an always on //mode// doesn't mean it's //required// to, a condition that could be met if this was talking about DRM.))</WRAP>

<fs xx-large>Digital Rights Management</fs> or DRM for short are access control technologies that limit the usage of digital content and devices.(([[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DRM|Disambiguation page for DRM on Wikipedia]])). Now, DRM is varied field of technologies, but I am mostly concerned with the license verification of [[Video Game|video games]]. This involves the use of a connection to a central [[server]] to verify the legiticamy of the verification and the installation files. The best known come in different flavors and go as such, in increasing aggressiveness:

  * [[Digital Rights Management#None|None]]
  * [[Digital Rights Management#On Installation|On installation]]
  * [[Digital Rights Management#Periodic|Periodic]]
  * [[Digital Rights Management#On Execution|On execution]]
  * [[Digital Rights Management#Always|Always]] ("Always on DRM")

Note that a game may pick and choose freely and create hybrids between these.
